Today the Lynd's Fruit Farm decided to give back in a big way to where they came from Appalachia Ohio - and for that we at Grandma's Gifts are grateful!

Fighting hunger is a priority of Grandma's Gifts and over the years we have received many meaningful and extremely large donations in our work to help feed children, the homeless and/or elderly, and veterans. This year Lynd's takes the cake... well, apple create... and donated 700lbs of apples of the most delicious smelling apples for us to deliver to Harvest for the Hungry food pantry. Such healthy treats are great for eating, cooking, and sharing!

Currently the 7th generation of Lynd apple growers run the show at Lynd's Fruit Farm in Pataskala, Ohio. The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd generation Lynd's lived in southern Ohio in a town by the name of Rome (close to Proctorville, Ohio). Proctorville is the home of the "Rome," "Red Rome", or "Rome Beauty" apple.

In 1919, A. T. (Alton Tecumseh) Lynd (4th generation) migrated up from southern Ohio,  purchasing an existing 80 acre farm (mostly already in planted orchard) east of Route 310 and along both sides of Morse Road. This original orchard had been planted in about 1880 so some of the trees were close to 40 years old in 1919. This was a very old and mature orchard and would soon have to be replanted. After years of hard work, success, failure, and transitions, the family runs a very successful orchard and never has forgotten their roots. Read their great story on their website:
www.LyndFruitFarm.com. Lynd's is also active on Twitter: @lyndfruitfarm.

We are so completely excited and suggest you visit Lynd's one of these days... and when you bite into that delicious apple remember - those apples are a product of Ohio agriculture and a loving Appalachian entrepreneurial family

Donation FMV: $550

Trip to the Newport Aquarium

11/1/2013

On November 1, 2013, Grandma's Gifts was able to take a southern Ohio school's second graders to the Newport Aquarium in Cincinnati, Ohio. This was all due to our great donors. Check out this picture of the kids in the large aquarium. The divers were feeding the fish!
